The lands of the historic Barony of Kinloch are situated in the Strathmore district of Perthshire. The story of the Barony is associated with the ancient Kinloch family, whose rise included landholding, public service, military allegiance, and political reform.
Dr. David Kinloch, a physician, poet, traveler, and royal medical adviser to King James VI, acquired lands in Perthshire and renamed them Kinloch. In 1685 Sir David Kinloch was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia, and by Crown Charter under the Great Seal of Scotland dated 12 March 1686, the estate was erected into the feudal and territorial Barony of Kinloch.
The Barony later became associated with Jacobite history, the political reform movement, and the distinguished figure George Kinloch, remembered as "The Radical Laird," who became the first democratically elected Member of Parliament for Dundee after the Reform Act of 1832.
